Great for soon to be parents!
I found this book very helpful in preparing my husband and I for our first child. I have spent hours with other's newborns but this book lets you know what to expect when you spend days with one. Everything right down to how much they poop was in this book. Unlike others, I did not find this book any more biased toward breastfeed than anything (book, magazine, news article, messageboard) else I have read and it has not left me feeling guilty about my choice not to. I would recommend this book to anyone who has not already had a hand in raising children.

Buy it!
Wish I could have read it before my baby's birth...it' a great way to prepare yourself...you wont regret buying it!

Very Practical
My wife and I are expecting our first child in the next couple weeks. I bought this book for her as a Christmas gift, but we've both benefited from it. It's focus is extremely tight, sticking with the first six months or so of raising a baby. That is a good thing, however, as it contains tons of helpful, specific tips for handling all the major aspects of raising an infant, such as breastfeeding, bathing, changing diapers, and safety, among other things. I have learned a great deal from it, and I'm sure I'll be turning back to it again and again for reference.

One of the great things about this book is that, while it's packed with information, it isn't technical at all, despite being written by a pair of doctors. They provide information about all options whenever there are multiple ways of doing things, but never presume to judge which is right for you personally. They also take a lighthearted approach, which I imagine is key for being able to deal with the stress of having a child. I can easily recommend this book for all new parents looking for an informative, but fun book for raising your newborn.

Great info
This book was immensely helpful. I read it the month before my son was born. I felt like I had a good idea of what is normal and what should be concerning. It has particularly good info on breastfeeding and some of the issues that come up in the first few weeks.

Excellent blend of idealistic and realistic guidelines.
I was intrigued from the start, by a book written by pediatricians who are also moms. Their dual perspective provided a wonderful mix of information that is medically and scientifically based, while also grounded in reality. I agree with another reviewer who said this book fell in the middle between dry medical books written by doctors and more one-sided views espoused by parent-authors. They consistently provided an even mix of "ideal" and "realistic" practices. For example, they recommend that baby clothes be wished in mild "baby" detergents, but acknowledge the reality that many parents will wash their baby's clothes along with other family laundry--and that this is okay so long as your baby doesn't show signs of skin irritation/allergies.

This book was easy to read, informative, down-to-earth, and funny at times. It addressed many of the questions I had as a new mom. The language is accessible, using common terms like "pee" and "poop" and also non-judgmental (openness to both breastfeeding, though preferred, and bottle-feeding). And while readers may need additional information on specific topics (e.g., a brief overview of infant sleeping may not be enough), this book is an excellent introduction to a wide variety of topics: eating, sleeping, crying, diapering, traveling, etc. As a clinical psychologist and expectant mom, I give this book my highest praise.
