This comprehensive guide for new parents finding themselves overwhelmed dealing with the reality of parenting provides "parent-tested, pediatrician-approved" advice to allay their fears. Written in a compassionate yet authoritative tone by two moms who are also pediatricians, this guide covers a wealth of topics that often prove daunting in the first eight weeks of a child's life. Starting with "Into the Mouths of Babes" (the trials of breastfeeding) and "What Comes in Must Come Out" (a discussion of "pee and poop") and moving on through "Fever: Trial by Fire" and "Seeing Yellow: Jaundice," this guide offers sound advice that will enable parents to feel confident about their parenting skills. Hints on daily living, sleep patterns, crying, the art and science of diapering, and traveling with a newborn are also provided.

Referenced until worn!
I felt clueless during the first couple of weeks after my daughter's birth. This book reassured me that I was doing things "right" and helped me understand what I wasn't sure about.
I first read the book cover to cover before my daughter was born and then referenced specifics using the index after she arrived. It is easy to navigate and understand. A must have for new (and even experienced) parents.

Great for first-time parents!
I don't know anything about babies, but I hated reading all those dry baby books. I would flip through one and put it down yawning. However, through my excitement over being pregnant I realized I didn't know many of the smallest things, like how to dress a baby. (pathetic, I know.) So I needed a book that was helpful but non-drowsy! This book is exactly what I was looking for. From the big things like installing car seats to the little things (like dressing infants!) this book gave step by step informative and humorous information. It's written by two women - both pediatricians and both moms. They have a fantastic view of taking care of children, and there was so much that calmed many of my fears. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is expecting.

Needs more real help and fewer jokes
Wow, this book had such great reviews, but I was really disappointed. There is some useful information in it, but the authors shy away from making actual recommendations, which becomes a little annoying. It seems like they are trying to please everyone.
But what was most annoying is all the dumb, useless sarcasm and joking in the book. I get it, the authors think they are funny, but when you haven't slept in a week and are looking for help to get your baby to sleep I don't want to be reading things that are suppose to make me chuckle and just want help... which I did not get.
My pediatrician's office hands out their own ~15 page book to all new patients and they actually helped me and I could read it quickly and get what I needed out of it. I wish I would have had it before the kid was born and I could have saved time and money wasted on this book.
Oh, and I found their use of the term, "burrito wrap" instead of swaddle really annoying.

A must-have for new parents!
Of all the literature I read on preparing for my newborn, this book was by far the best. It provided all the essential information, but in a very realistic way. Reading this book was like having a pediatrician AND a good friend by my side during babies first months!

Best Book of the Bunch
We bought just about every baby book out there... and this was by far the best. Very informative but not too long a read. Not too many author opinions. I'm going through our books now that our son is one year old and this is the only one I want to keep!
